About the Event

National Jewel/Jewelry Day is celebrated on March 13, 2023, around the world.  This day is your chance to give or receive jewelry, as well as to recognize  jewelers. If you own some jewelry, go ahead, and wear it. If you always wanted  to buy some special jewelry, go ahead and treat yourself. Maybe you can even  meet with friends to create some handmade jewelry. If you don’t like to wear or  own jewelry, go ahead and read about it’s history, where it comes from and how  it is produced. Don't forget that guys can wear jewelry, too, so this day can both  be celebrated by men and women. The origin of this day is unknown. (From www.cute-calendar.com

Jewel is a term used to refer to gemstones - precious or semi-precious and  natural or man-made - and for ornaments made from these gemstones. The word  comes from the Medieval Latin word jocale meaning plaything or pastime. Did  you know that the word diamond comes from the Greek word for invincible?  Fitting, since diamond is one of the hardest substances known.

Coveted throughout human history, jewels and ornaments have been used by  humans for functional and decorative purposes. In many societies in the past and  present, jewelry is worn as a way of reflecting one's status in society.

How to Celebrate

  • Buy yourself that piece of jewelry that you have been eyeing forever.
  • Exchange handmade jewelry with your friends.
  • Use this day to take care of your jewels.
  • Learn more about jewels from diverse cultures and historical time periods.
  • Listen to the music of Jewel, the American singer-songwriter.

Perhaps this day is not much more than a marketing concept, but I am on board with it. Plus, it has two names so that’s double the good (like using two  exclamation points)!! Don’t forget to celebrate all things shiny, blingy, and  sparkly on March 13, National Jewel and Jewelry Day
